Nora Sourouzian Mezzo Soprano
Recent successes as CARMEN Oper Zurich, Opera de Lausanne and Bergamo, Cremona and Como in Italy have resulted in a flood of future engagements for the Canadian mezzo-soprano Nora Sourouzian. Engagements already confirmed include MARIA CALLAS Jackie O at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna and CARMEN for Oper Köln.
Recent successes as CARMEN Oper Zürich, Opéra de Lausanne and Bergamo, Cremona and Como in Italy have resulted in a flood of future engagements for the Canadian mezzo-soprano Nora Sourouzian. Engagements already confirmed include MARIA CALLAS Jackie O at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna and CARMEN for Oper Köln.
She studied in Montréal, appearing as HÄNSEL Hänsel und Gretel, KOMPONIST Ariadne auf Naxos, Giulio Cesare (title role), GENEVIEVE Pelléas et Mélisande and MOTHER Albert Herring, in addition to the title role in Mignon with the Summer Opera Lyric Theater, Toronto. She went on to join the Internationaal Opera Centrum Nederland in Amsterdam as a member of their Young Artists Programme, before emerging as a finalist at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Wettbewerb in Vienna, bringing her to the attention of an international public. Invitations following this success included Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg as COMTESSE DE COIGNY and MADELON in Andrea Chenier, and LA MERE and LA LIBÉLLULE in L’enfant et les Sortilèges with the Limburgs Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ed Spanjaard.
Highlights since then have included title role in The Rape of Lucretia in Rennes (co-production between the I.O.C Nederland and C.O.C Toronto, conducted by Richard Bradshaw), DORABELLA Cosi fan tutte at the Landesteather, Salzburg, DORABELLA and CARMEN with Welsh National Opera and NEFERTITI Akhnaten and CHERUBINO with L’Opera National du Rhin, Strasbourg. Other appearances have included ALOES L’Etoile for Operhaus Zϋrich conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, MYRTALE Thais at Théâtre du Chatelet conducted by Marc Minkowski, as well as the VARA Zaterdag Matinee Amsterdam, l’Opera de Genève, Lugo Festival, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli and Teatro Sao Carlo, Lisboa.
Her extensive concert and recital appearances have included Mahler’s Third Symphony and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Haydn’s cantata Arianna a Naxos, Mozart’s Requiem and Brahms’ Liebesliederwalzer. She was also a soloist in a recital at the Göttinger Händel Festspiele, accompanied by Nicholas McGegan.
Future projects include the title role in “Carmen” in LEIPZIG, BOLOGNA and KOELN.
