Born in Sweden and educated in Australia, Anna Ryberg has consolidated a strong public following and garnered critical recognition throughout Europe, with recent highly-successful appearances including SANDRINA La Finta Giardiniera, MUSETTA La Bohème, and in 2007 ADINA L’elisir d’amore for Opera North. A busy schedule 2008 – 2009 includes both MARZELLINE Fidelio and LUCIA Rape of Lucretia for Oper Frankfurt, with further engagements in Europe and the United States.
She made her debut as VIVETTA L’Arlesiana for Opera Holland Park, returning the following year as SUSANNA in Le Nozze di Figaro. This early success led to invitations to sing BARBARINA The Marriage of Figaro for Opera North, PAMINA Die Zauberflöte with Aix-en-Provence, and POLISSENA Radamisto at the Halle Händel-Festspiele, thereby launching her international career.
She began a close association with the role of SEMELE making her debut with Pinchgut Opera, Australia, and adding to her discography by recording it with the Sirius Ensemble, conducted by Antony Walker. Onstage, highlights have included BARBARINA at the Nederlandse Opera, CONTESSA Nozze di Figaro for Opéra de Rouen, as well as IOLE in Handel’s Hercules for the American-French Institution in Paris and Athens. Her concert appearances include Messiah with the Halle Orchestra and The Creation with the London Sinfonia, in addition to recitals at the Wigmore and Bridgewater Halls in London, and for the Broadwood Soirées Recital Series.
Among other highlights feature BERTHA Euryanthe for the Netherlands Opera, POLISSENA with the Wiener Akademie in Salamaca and Bilbao, LAURETTA Gianni Schicchi with Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg and SANDMAN/DEW FAIRY Hänsel and Gretel for Welsh National Opera.
Other highlights at Oper Frankfurt have included CONTESSA DI FOLLEVILLE Il viaggio a Reims, NINFA Orfeo, JANO Jenufa, and DUSILLA/VITÙ L’incoronazione di Poppea. In addition she enjoyed particular critical acclaim as OSCAR Un Ballo in Maschera, SERVILIA La Clemenza di Tito, ESMERALDA The Bartered Bride and POPPEA Agrippina.
