The Swiss tenor Bernard Richter ranks among an elite, representing some of the finest artists in the world today. Further evidence of his international appeal can be seen in future engagements including CHEVALIER DE LA FORCE in Dialogues des Carmélites for the Bayerische Staatsoper München, HENRY SMITH in Bizet’s La Jolie Fille de Perth for the Stadttheater Bern, and CAMILLE DE ROSSILLON for the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

The Swiss tenor Bernard Richter studied in Neuchâtel and was a member of the Opera Studio in Bienne. In 2001 he was a finalist in the Concours International de Paris.
In the early years of his career he appeared as a guest in the opera houses of Lucerne, Bern, Basel, Leipzig and Frankfurt and sang roles such as DON OTTAVIO Don Giovanni, CAMILLE DE ROSILLON Die lustige Witwe, CAMPO-TASSO Brigands (Offenbach), ALMAVIVA Il Barbiere di Siviglia, FENTON Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, MARQUIS VON CHATEAUNEUF Zar und Zimmermann, TAMINO Die Zauberflöte and BARON KRONTHAL Der Wildschütz.
Bernard Richter appears regularly in concerts. He sang at the Salle Gaveau de Paris and Tonhalle Zürich, gave a recital in Victoria Hall, Geneva (with Charles Spencer) and sang FRANCESCO Benvenuto Cellini with the MDR Orchestra at the Gewandhaus, Leipzig and in Weimar. Also in concert he sang PUBLIO ll Sogno di Scipione with the Berliner Symphoniker at the Berliner Philharmonie and for the Mozart Tage Luzern and ARIEL Faustszenen for Styriarte Graz. He also sang ACIS Acis und Galatea in concerts with Les Musiciens du Louvre at the Salzburger Pfingsfestspiele and in Bilbao and Valencia. Concert plans include Schubert with Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai in Torino.
In past seasons he sang TAMINO at Stadttheater Klagenfurt, CONTE ERRICO La Vera Costanza at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, FERRANDO Così fan tutte for Theater Basel, PARIS La Belle Hélène and FRITZ La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris and TAMINO for Opera Ireland.
In the summer of 2005 he made his debut at the Salzburger Festspiele as GUIDOBALDO in Franz Schrecker’s Die Gezeichneten. Important projects in 2005/06 were the title role in LUCIO SILLA (Bach) for Oper Zürich and HYLAS Les Troyens and THESPIS Platée at Opéra National de Paris, Bastille.
Amongst the conductors and directors he has worked with are; Adam Fischer, Ken Nagano, Marc Minkowski, Jeffrey Tate, Ivor Bolton, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi, Sir Neville Mariner, Theodor Guschlbauer, Sylvain Cambreling, Asher Fisch, Jonathan Nott, Michael Hofstetter, Claude Schnitzler, Laurent Pelly, Christof Loy, Nikolaus Lehnoff and Keith Warner.
Recent projects were the title role IDOMENEO for Theater Freiburg, BRIGHELLA Ariadne auf Naxos for Grand Théâtre de Genève, CLOTARCO Armida at Salzburger Festspiele 2007 and MEDORO Orlando Paladino at Theater an der Wien.
Most recent appearances include ALPHONSE Zampa (William Christie) at Opéra Comique and a return to the Bastille as JUNGER SEEMANN/HIRTE Tristan und Isolde as well as to Freiburg for the title role MITRIDATE and to Theater an der Wien for DON OTTAVIO and ECCLITICO Il Mondo della Luna. He recently made his debut at the at Bayerische Staatsoper München as CHEVALIER DE LA FORCE Dialogues des Carmélites.
Future plans include the title role in Lully’s Atys at the Opera Comique and FERRANDO “Cosi Fan Tutte” at Opera des Champs Elysees.
