Susannah Self Mezzo Soprano

Belonging to that rare breed of multi-faceted artist, singer and composer Susannah Self has built an extraordinarily rich and diverse career, delighting both public and critics alike with her vocal ability as well as her unique and creative compositions. Future engagements in the later stages of conclusion include the role of Ma Moss in Copeland's The Tender Land for Opéra de Lyon in 2010.

Belonging to that rare breed of multi-faceted artist, singer and composer Susannah Self has built an extraordinarily rich and diverse career, delighting both public and critics alike, with recent highlights including MRS GROSE Turn of the Screw and MISTRESS QUICKLY Falstaff, conducted by Ivor Bolton at the Salzburg Landestheater and Santiago, Chile, TERESA in La Sonnambula for the Vlaamse Opera, MRS SEDLEY in Peter Grimes for Opera North and 3rd Secretary in Nixon in China in Athens. A busy future schedule includes several significant composition premieres and tours, while her singing agenda includes covering the role of BRIGITTA in Korngold’s Die Tote Stadt for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Susannah Self studied singing at the Royal College of Music with Josephine Veasey and composition with Stephen Dodgson, going on to study in Germany with Sena Jurinac and at the Banff Centre, Canada with John Cage.

Susannah’s guest appearances have included De Vlaamse Opera, the Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg and more recently the Presteigne Festival, in repertoire including MADAME DE LA HALTIERE Cendrillon, MARIE Der Fliegende Holländer and EMILIA Otello. Susannah was a soloist in Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, Glass’s Peace Symphony and Verdi’s Requiem with the Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra at the Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels. She also co-starred for a season with Jasper Carrot as KATISHA The Mikado at the Savoy Theatre.

Her composition work has included pieces for The Royal Opera House’s Garden Venture, and has been featured by journalists such as Verity Sharp for BBC Radios 3 and 4.
