His future engagements continue this distinctive trend, with performances as VAKULA in The Royal Opera House Covent Garden’s production of The Tsarina’s Slippers, PEDRILLO Die Entführung aus dem Serail for WNO and TRUFFALDINO in Prokofiev’s L’amour des trois Oranges and the Italian Tenor in Capriccio for Grange Park Opera in 2010. He will also record BRIGHELLA Ariadne Auf Naxos with Sir Charles Mackerras. His numerous concert appearances include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera this autumn.
Born in South Wales, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London. As a principal tenor with Welsh National Opera his many roles included DUCA Rigoletto, RODOLFO La Bohème, ALFRED Die Fledermaus, JAQUINO Leonore, ALFREDO La Traviata, CHEVALIER DE LA FORCE Dialogues des Carmélites, BRIGHELLA Ariadne auf Naxos, TAMINO The Magic Flute, FIRST JEW Salome and LIBERTO L’incoronazione di Poppea. He has gone on to appear throughout the UK, with particular highlights including PAOLINO The Secret Marriage, PRUNIER La Rondine and FENTON Falstaff for Opera North; ALFREDO La Traviata, CAVARADOSSI Tosca, THIRD JEW Salome for English National Opera and TAMINO The Magic Flute and THE ITALIAN TENOR Der Rosenkavalier for Scottish Opera. Other appearances have included FRACASSO La Finta Semplice for Classical Opera Company, RODOLFO La Bohème for Castleward Opera, FORESTO Attila and ARVINO Il Lombardi for Chelsea Opera Group, La Traviata for Opera Northern Ireland, adding the role of NEMORINO L’elisir d’amore for Glyndebourne Festival, HARRY Fanciulla del West for Grange Park Opera and – with an eclecticism that is the trade-mark of his success - Param Vir’s Broken Strings for Almeida Opera.
His vast concert and recital repertoire has included collaborations with many of the nation’s première ensembles, including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Halle, London Symphony Orchestra and City of London Sinfonia. His many recital credits have included Wigmore Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, St. David’s Hall Cardiff, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Bridgewater Hall Manchester and also appeared as the tenor soloist at the opening night of the BBC Proms, and more recently at the Welsh Proms.
His growing discography includes three CDs with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and he has recorded May Night, Walton and Mathias with the BBC NOW. In 2004 Wynne replied on behalf of the Welsh Rugby team to the New Zealand Haka at the Millennium Stadium, went on with repeat performances during the RBS Six Nations Championship and is now a regular at Wales Internationals. He also currently appears on a highly-successful television publicity campaign in the UK.
