David Woloszko Bass

Bass-baritone David Woloszko’s engaging stage-presence and vocal vibrancy continues to delight both audiences and critics alike. Most recent successes have included THE FAT ENGLISHMAN in Prokofiev’s The Gambler for The Royal Opera Covent Garden, while future engagements so far confirmed include covering IDRAOTE and ASTAROTTE in Rossini’s Armida for Garsington Opera summer 2010.

Bass-baritone David Woloszko’s engaging stage-presence and vocal vibrancy continues to delight both audiences and critics alike. Most recent successes have included THE FAT ENGLISHMAN in Prokofiev’s The Gambler for The Royal Opera Covent Garden, while future engagements so far confirmed include covering IDRAOTE and ASTAROTTE in Rossini’s Armida for Garsington Opera summer 2010.

Born in Sydney, Australia, he studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and was a Graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. In 2001 he joined the Opera Queensland Young Artists Programme, having already come to the attention of a wider public by reaching the 1998 Metropolitan Regional Finals and in the 1999 the finals of the Covent Garden Scholarship. He made his debut as DON ALFONSO Così fan tutte with Opera Queensland, going on to sing the role of COLLINE as part of Opera Australia’s touring production of La Bohème, in addition to covering the roles of SPARAFUCILE and CEPRANO in Ozopera’s production of Rigoletto.

He made his UK debut in 2004 as BARTOLO Le Nozze di Figaro and JOSÉ CASTRO La Fanciulla del West for Opera Holland Park, ANGELOTTI Tosca for London City Opera, and was involved in several ENO Baylis education projects, including Pirates of Penzance and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2005 he covered the role of BARTOLO for Glyndebourne on Tour, which led to his engagement as BARTOLO in Opera North’s 2006 production.

Further appearances in the UK have included CAPELIO in I Capuleti e I Montecchi for Grange Park and Pimlico Opera, LEPORELLO Don Giovanni for English Pocket Opera, SAGRESTANO Tosca, BARTOLO Nozze di Figaro for Opera East, SIGNOR LA ROCCA Un giorno di Regno for Opera della Luna, as well as covering the roles of ROCCO Fidelio and MAGNIFICO Cenerentola for Garsington Opera and the role of MUSTAFA L’Italiana in Algeri for Scottish Opera.
