Dominic Grier Conductors
With recent critically-acclaimed debuts including Copland’s The Tender Land for Opéra de Lyon, Dominic Grier is establishing himself one of the brightest young conductors currently emerging from the UK. Future plans so far confirmed include performances conducting The Royal Ballet at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in addition to an exciting programme of concerts as Principal Conductor of the King's College London Symphony Orchestra. Further European projects are also currently under discussion.

Born in London, he read Music at Cambridge, before going on to study conducting at The Royal Academy of Music in London with Colin Metters and Sir Colin Davis. His credits thus far include repertoire sessions with the BBC Philharmonic, and the Nash and Paragon Ensembles (St. Magnus Festival). He has also worked with the Orchestra of Opera North (Leeds Conductors’ Competition, 2005) and the Bamberger Symphoniker (Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, 2007) as well as serving as guest or rehearsal conductor for numerous London-based orchestras including the Southbank Sinfonia, Orpheus Sinfonia, and Orchestra of the City. He served as Principal Conductor of the London International Orchestra of Academia from 2006-2008 and as Music Director of his own Manfred Ensemble – a chamber orchestra specialising in historically-informed performances of nineteenth-century music – from 2000-2006.
He continues to be closely associated with the Royal Opera House (Jette Parker Young Artists Programme) and began collaboration with the Royal Ballet in September 2008. He made his Royal Opera House debut with Walton’s Façade in October 2008. He works regularly as Assistant Conductor at the Opéra National de Lyon where his repertoire has included Siegfried (2007), Porgy and Bess (2008) and Death in Venice (2009). He was Assistant Conductor for the British Youth Opera production of Albert Herring during its 2007 season, and served as Music Director of the Ashover Festival Orchestra in September 2005 and 2006. He is also increasingly active as a teacher of conducting, and was recently appointed Tutor in Undergraduate Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music.
